About PropaneIQ™
The PropaneIQ™ series is STS's signature propane incident response program — a three-tiered curriculum covering everything from operations-level awareness to advanced specialist techniques involving live propane on tanks up to 2,000+ gallons.
Every course uses live propane. Students perform actual valve shutdowns, adapter operations, and mitigation procedures on real equipment — not props or simulations. They leave with skills and muscle memory that translate directly to the next real-world incident.
Courses
Designed for operations-level trained firefighters arriving on scene of a propane incident without specialized equipment. This 4-hour course builds foundational knowledge and hands-on confidence from the first minute on scene.
Most often delivered in two 4-hour sessions daily to obtain maximum student capacity — 20 students per session, up to 40 per day.
Designed for hazmat technicians seeking to develop the necessary skills for effectively mitigating propane leaks from DOT cylinders and ASME tanks with capacities up to 2,000 gallons.
The curriculum covers propane behavior in various scenarios through lectures, case studies, and hands-on demonstrations utilizing a hydrometer.
Advanced Propane Response Tactics — Specialist Level is designed for hazmat technicians seeking to further develop their expertise and achieve Specialist Level certification.
This course emphasizes hands-on training and practical application using live propane, covering incident control and mitigation in realistic scenarios including tanks over 2,000 gallons.
